Cape Garden Route

The Cape Garden Route is certainly one of the most spectacular places to travel in the world. The scenery around Cape Town and the Garden Route rivals the best in terms of coastal routes. It is often compared to the Californian and Mediterranean coastal routes. South Africa has wonderful diversity, all in a days drive from Cape Town the experience of the cape wine districts stretch in-land for 300 miles (500km). Route 62 is the longest wine route in the world traversing the scenic Little Karoo (dry place), with striking sandstone mountain passes all the way into Ostrich territory of Calitzdorp and Oudsthoorn districts.

Typical Cape Garden Route Safaris include elements of Cape Town, Route 62, Oudtshoorn, George, Wilderness, and Knysna before arriving in the Tsitsikamma (place of water). Storms River National Park exhibits the best example of ancient forest and rugged coastline meeting the wild Indian Ocean. The walk to the suspension bridge offers hikers of all age groups hours of pleasure. A walk on the wild side at Blaauwkrans Bridge offers the highest Bungi experience in the world at 745 foot (226m).

Knysna and Plettenberg Bay both have a lot of scenery to offer; both have estuaries to enjoy for boating and on boating people. Local restaurants offer great seafood experiences. Mountain biking around the forests in the region is a huge attraction due to variety and great scenery. Hiking routes are in abundance.

The Garden Route has many faces, and more than one point of entry – Port Elizabeth, Cape Town or George. Port Elizabeth is also known as the friendly city and within easy driving distance to the Eastern Cape Safari preserves. There are a variety of Lodges to choose from depending on personal requirement and budget. There is something for everyone from 4 – 5 star; those who prefer a self drive will find Addo Elephant Park a very good choice. The area has the densest elephant population on earth, and they are pretty docile to be around!
